The Children Park is located in the heart of Saddi Dilli at the India Gate and is a favorite picnic destination of all Delhiites who have kids. If you are an adult and you don’t have any kids accompanying you, be sure to have a tough time entering the children park premises since the guards won’t let people without toddlers in. This practice is followed so that the park does not lose its essence, does not get over-crowded and does not turn into a lovers haunt eventually.
The people who are not able to gain access of the beautiful park don’t need to get disappointed since, just besides the park and actually just outside it, one can see many families either just taking a leisurely stroll or boating and kids playing and indulging into various street snacks and ice creams of course. The lush lawns of India Gate are quite popular in the evenings, especially in summers when the locals throng here to either savor an ice cream or simply enjoy the cool breeze.
The children park is full of interesting stuff for children like statues of cartoon characters, a large number and variety of swings, very well maintained lawns with blossoming flowers, an aquarium, etc. Although the park gates are closed after six in the evening one can actually enjoy the well illuminated park during the winter nights when the sun sets a little early in the evenings.
Sundown is the ideal time to visit India Gate, it is at this time when the iconic arch is dramatically floodlit and the nearby fountains make a lovely display of lights and water. Surrounded by deep green lawns, the area also has a small lake where you can enjoy boating in the summer evenings. Ice-cream carts, balloon sellers, popcorn and peanut hawkers, and women selling jasmine garlands, are a common sight here.
The adjoining children park is a great place if one wants to spend an entire day out in the open and have some sort of a day long week end picnic, India Gate is the ideal place where adults as well as kids can have a great time swinging together and turning the day into a memorable experience.
