The iconic Dilli Haat is a modern village market located on the Aurobindo Marg near the INA Market opposite the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). It has been named so because the word Haat in Hindi refers to a weekly market in rural, semi-urban and sometimes even urban India and Dilli we by now very well know refers to Saddi Dilli. It offers the visitors a perfect glimpse of India’s culture, traditions and food right in the heart of the cosmopolitan city. The deliberation and efforts put behind making the place feel like a traditional village market, makes every visitors experience an absolute delight.
Since its inauguration in the month of March 1994, Dilli Haat has been home to thousands of handicraft and hand-loom artisans. The complex houses interesting artistic specialties from all states across India and there is something for everyone. It also has a recreational space exclusively earmarked for children. There are stalls dishing out sumptuous delicacies from different States and Union Territories, an Exhibition Hall, a Souvenir shop selling assorted gift items and an open stage for cultural programs. It is a place where one can unwind in the evening and relish a wide variety of cuisine and that too without blowing a hole in the pocket.
Dilli Haat is run by Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC). At present Dilli has two such bazaars, the second, Dilli Haat is situated in Pitampura, in North Dilli, at Netaji Subash Place was established in April 2008.
Both the Haat’s open for public at 10:30 in the morning and close at 9:00 in the evening, seven days a week. The entry fee is pretty nominal with INR 20 for an Adult and INR 10 for Children.
