The Garden of five senses is a breath taking and an enamoring experience. It is not just a park it is a celebration of aesthetic expression and appreciation, a seamless dialogue between the creations of man and nature that invites interaction and exploration. It is an intricate blend of nature’s beauty and subtle human creation. Amidst the concrete jungle and the hustle and bustle of the city, the garden of five senses comes across as a welcome breath of fresh air and serene quietude. True to the imagery suggested by its name and with its beautiful, lush green landscapes, the garden of five senses stimulates all the five senses in an evocative bouquet that awakens the mind to the beauty of life and invokes a grateful prayer for the gift of touch, sight, sound, smell and taste.
The garden of five senses is located at Said-ul-Aizab village, which is close to the Mehrauli heritage area in Saddi Dilli. The garden is built on a large 20 acres piece of land. It was inaugurated in February 2003 by Chief Minister of Dilli, Sheila Dikshit, coinciding with the beginning of the 16th garden festival which was showcasing seasonal flowers, hanging baskets and animal figures sculpted from plants and leaves.
The garden is a visual treat and besides being a hit among love birds from South Dilli, it has many unique features which make it different from other parks. Not only is its beauty marvelous, it also has a lot to offer in terms of education.
Some cool things to look for while visiting the place are:
1. Over 200 special varieties of plants and flowers under one roof
2. Colour Gardens – beautiful compositions of flowering shrubs and ground covers
3. An expansive plaza, set on the natural slope of the site, invites you up the spiral walkway
4. A troop of elephants, cut in stone, regaling in a water bath
Besides being a park the place also is an open exhibition area, an art destination, a festival venue, a theme park, an amusement park, a solar energy park and a cultural venue. A visit to Saddi Dilli would be therefore incomplete if this place does not feature in your itinerary.
