Gurgaon – The Millennium City
Gurgaon is located in the northern part of Haryana and the city’s population is around 1,000,000 (as per the 2001 census). Gurgaon is the main city of the National Capital Region of Dilli because it is the home to all major IT companies and provides the best infrastructure in terms of schools, roads, housing societies and medical facilities.
The name “Gurgaon” has some mythological connection because the city was the home to the Guru of Pandavas and Kauravas Guru Dronacharya and was called “Guru-Gram”. Pandavas and Kauravas gifted the city to their respected “Guru” Dronacharya. Later this name was changed to “Gurgaon”.
Gurgaon is the hub of all international Business Process Outsourcing (BPO’s) companies and they give the most towards not only Gurgaon’s economy but also towards the overall development of Haryana. The major industries in Gurgaon are IT, ITES, auto manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. However, other industries and MNC’s are also coming to Gurgaon considering the infrastructural facilities and skilled labor that comprises of people from all across India.
Great connectivity with Delhi and near with the International Airport makes this city a preferred destination for corporate bodies and foreign investors. Connectivity has improved with flyovers on the National Highway 8 and commuting from Dilli to Gurgaon hardly takes 45 minutes.
Professionals from all across India come to Gurgaon in search of jobs and livelihood. People find the city amicable for staying as there are flats, apartments, housing societies, residential colonies and independent homes available in abundance and accommodation is available at affordable rates.
Gurgaon has recently emerged as a preferred destination for people from all across for all their needs of Shopping, Dining and Entertainment. There are many malls offering endless choices of entertainment. Some of them are Sahara Mall, DLF City Center, DLF Grand Mall, DT Mall, DT Mega Mall, Metropolitan Mall and MGF Mega City. The Haryana government has taken up the project to build world-class “Golden Triangle City Center” in Sector 29 that will have four skyscrapers.
With the recent additions like the world-class theatre ‘Kingdom Of Dreams’ the ‘Gold Souk’ an exclusive shopping mall for shoppers who want to indulge in gold shopping and ‘The Wedding Mall’ where soon to be married couples can get their hands on everything that can make their marriage memorable; Gurgaon has definitely become the first choice for shoppers.
Gurgaon has some good schools and professional institutes that beckon students from all across the country, especially from adjoining states. Some of the technical institutes in Gurgaon are MDI, Institute of Technology and Management, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Indian Institute of Law, The State Bank training Academy, Apeejay College of Engineering, Institute for International management and Technology, The Fertiliser Development Institute, Potash Research Institute, The Ansal Institute of Higher Education, Gurgaon Institute of Dental Sciences, Sushant School of Art and Architecture.
Some important schools in Gurgaon are Alpine Convent School, Amity International School, Delhi Public School, Shalom Hills International School, Summer Fields School, Rotary Public School, Blue Bells Model School, Our Lady of Fatima Convent High School, DAV Public School, Ryan International, Pathways World School near Aravali Hills.
The city is well-connected with Dilli and other neighboring states via interstate buses and cabs. Traveling to Dilli is not a problem because many buses ply to different parts of Dilli regularly. The Dilli Metro however is the best and the most preferred way these days to connect with any part of Dilli. The first Metro station of Gurgaon is at the HUDA city center, people can either board the train from here or from other following stations en-route.
