Most would agree that it is a divine experience these days zipping through the Gurgaon Delhi expressway. All this is courtesy the Punjab Haryana High Court who has actually penalized the toll authorities by asking them not to collect any toll tax from private vehicles. The toll authorities have been penalized since they have failed miserably in improving the traffic congestion (during peak hours) despite the courts order to do so by increasing the number of collection booths.
The DGSCL (Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity ltd.) has actually been just minting money and has absolutely ignored the snags due to which the chaotic traffic jams ensue for hours. The toll charge for a private car in INR 21 for one side and daily commuters like me had to shell out INR 42 per day to get stuck in the jam twice a day for a good 30 minutes or more.
The toll tax relief started on the 5th Sep 2012 and was supposed to last for 15 days, it was however extended for another week post the inspection of a senior judge on the condition of traffic and development on increased number of booths front. Since there wasn’t any development as such, the ban was further extended yesterday till the coming Friday the 28th Sep 2012.
The ‘Times of India’ had done a commendable job in collecting opinions from people all across Dilli, about whether the toll should be continued or not, and if at all it should be continued, what all remedial measure does DGSCL need to take to avoid jams.
From where I look at it, I guess the DGSCL has already collected more than they invested in the plan and the toll charges should now be exempted for at least private vehicles since most vehicles crossing the toll everyday are private vehicles. What Do You Say……
