India Gate and Rajpath
Among some of the very important pieces of the Lutyens Delhi is the Rajpath which means the King’s Way, starts from the Vijay Chowk and is a straight road which runs up to the India Gate and beyond that. India Gate is a war memorial raised in the honor of the Indian soldiers who died during the Afghan wars and the World War I. The names of the soldiers who died in these wars are inscribed on the walls of the India Gate. The memorial in the middle is constructed with black marble and depicts a rifle placed on its barrel, with a soldier’s helmet placed on it. The words Amar Jawan which means Immortal Warrior have been inscribed in gold on each face of the memorial. An immortal flame is always kept alive at the Amar Jawan Jyoti. The green lawns at India Gate are a popular evening and holiday rendezvous for everyone visiting the place. Every year the Republic day celebrations are made in Dilli and the army men and other citizens of India who are awarded or who take part in the celebrations take part in a parade through the Rajpath.
