I remember visiting the National Science Center long time back when I was in Grade 8 or something and that too via a school trip. One can easily blame that on my ‘not-so-academic’ bent of mind which was all because of mathematics and I was one among the exceptionally bad students when it came to number crunching back then, the scenario hasn’t changed much even now however I was eventually able to evade the math and science streams and swam across the higher grades comfortably through the commerce route.
Albeit, talking about the National Science Center of Saddi Dilli which is located in central Dilli just next to the Pragati Maidan and opposite the Dilli Zoo and the Purana Qila (Old Fort), is actually a hit among inquisitive students who wish to pursue science as a subject and excel in the same in future. The National Science Center was established in 1992 as a one of its kind science museum in Dilli. Although this is the third science museum in India after the first one which got opened in Kolkata way back in 1959 and the second one which got opened in Bangalore in 1962.
The Dilli center is built in 8 floors full of science; this museum houses a working science exhibition as well as exhibits on the history of architecture. It has various sections for all age groups such as heritage & dinosaur gallery, human biology gallery, a fun science library etc. There are also a number of hands-on displays explaining the laws of physics. The Cyberkool of this museum is the first fun-packed multimedia centre in the country. One can easily spend an entire day here by either just gazing at the wonderful scientific models on display here, or trying to figure out the WHY’s and HOW’s of things.
Well to sum it up, the place is not only great for kids but young adults like us can also give a little blessing in terms of a knowledge boost or a refresher course, to our gradually fading science cells which at least I, have never been able to figure out what to do with.
