The Regional Passport Office in saddi Dilli was set up in the year 1954. It was among the first five Passport Offices to be setup in India. The others were at Bombay which is now known as Mumbai, Calcutta which now is Kolkata, Madras now known as Chennai and Nagpur. One can apply for a passport at the passport office of Delhi either online on the official website which is www.passport.gov.in or offline by visiting the office in person and by standing in long queues. From what I can recall from my experience of getting a passport made almost five to six years back, there were around four queues in which I lined up subsequently. Needless to mention that touts frequently approached with a very helpful offer to get the work done backdoors, however at a premium, to which I gently refused.
If applying online; one needs to visit the website first and if you are willing to make the payment for the application fee in cash you will find an option of application on the site. One simply needs to click on it and download the application form from here. Fill the application form and print it out, take the print out to the Delhi Passport Office and make its payment in cash.
If you’d like to pay through a bank draft you need to click on the online ‘registration option’ found on home page. As soon as the option is clicked, it redirects to a new page where after carefully reading the guidelines contained in it the continue button should be pressed and then the form can be filled and submitted.
For the non tech savvy people, I am sure you’d like to visit the place in person, check out the authenticity of the office and officers and then apply. Sure you can do that; you just need to visit the passport office at Bhikaji Cama Place in South-West Dilli and you will be redirected so. The documents required to apply for a fresh passport if you are an Indian are two copies each of the address proof, the date of birth proof, any citizenship document, Identity certificate from the government of India or any statutory body or public sector employees and a standard affidavit.
For any further information about the application process, and details of the documentation required, please feel free to surf through the official website of the passport office.
